New Thought Practices

New Thought Millennials are overwhelmingly independent practitioners. One of the reasons for this is a shared understanding that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is the highest spiritual teaching imparted to humanity through humanity.

This truth is not commonly taught in most old New Thought communities which means they are less attractive to Millennials.

New Thought Millennials embrace spiritual practices such as meditation, conscious communication and spiritual mind treatment (cognitive psychology) etc... as the means to personal evolution and co-creation of Civil Societies which are robust vehicles for the creation of a compassionate culture throughout the world.

Explore the New Thought Practice of Contemplation

Spiritual practice is a means by which we individually evolve. It should be noted that while New Thought spiritual practices are ancient, they have been validated by medical science. Successful scientists, artists, musicians, athletes and astronauts use many of these tools to achieve higher levels of creativity. This is because happy successful people share in common the understanding that as we cultivate higher consciousness, focus attention upon the expansion of our awareness and compassion, and develop personal wisdom, we are able to manifest our dreams. Wisdom is the combination of knowledge with compassion. While those who operate from the "Reptilian Brain" often have erroneous concepts leading to beliefs that domination is the key to success, higher thinkers are aware that the greatest success comes through partnership and co-creation.

Through intention to live lives of dynamic compassionate action to this and Spiritual Practices to support that intention, we are able to transform our thinking and consequently our hearts which opens the flow of divine dynamics into our lives through higher thinking.  The result is joyful success.

Contemplation is a New Thought Practice

Contemplation is a New Thought Spiritual Practice

Contemplation is different from meditation

"Therefore, focus your mind on Me alone and let your intellect dwell upon Me through meditation and contemplation. Thereafter you shall certainly come to Me."
~ Bhagavad Gita

In contrast to meditation which is stilling the thoughts and through this stillness becoming aware of the unity of all things, contemplation is the act of focusing on a particular idea and becoming one with it and using this idea as a vehicle for spiritual transformation

It is wise to choose well what we are contemplating upon. We can also think deeply on a subject and that is deep contemplation. In contrast to meditation which is stilling the thoughts and through this stillness becoming aware of the unity of all things, contemplation is the act of focusing on a particular idea and becoming one with it and using this idea as a vehicle for understanding. Reading spiritual/religious texts, taking in nature, listening to music are all acts of contemplation. You can pick a piece of text from a spiritual book and work with it over a period of time using the text as a guide to looking at the world.

Contemplation ~ Focusing on Objects

“Our thoughts create our reality, where we put our focus is the direction we tend to go.”
~ Peter McWilliams

“It is wise to direct your anger towards problems, not people;
to focus your energies on answers -- not excuses."

~ William Arthur Ward

Focus your attention, concentrating on something to take your attention beyond the random thought activity that is usually going on in our minds. You can focus your attention using a solid object, a picture or mandala, a mantra, your breath or a tape of a guided visualization.

Typical objects of concentration include a candle flame, plant or blossom. Some people use pictures, such as mandalas, which are symmetrical paintings that help to induce positive states of consciousness. Some people might use a picture of a spiritual teacher. . Mantras are words/sounds which have a flowing, meditative quality and may be repeated out loud or inwardly. Perhaps the most common focus of meditation is the breath.

Effects of Contemplation

Contemplation ~ Effects of

With an eye made quiet by the power of harmony, and the deep power of joy, we see into the life of things.
~ William Wordsworth

"A man,who realizes the potential of his mind by means of introspection and contemplation, he does not lack self-confidence. He has control over his mind and he is able to realize it's full potential.
~Sam Veda

Therefore we are wise to be aware of what we are reading, watching and listening to. Awareness is extremely important. If we consistently "practice the presence" then we will see more and more positive results in our lives. All that we take into our consciousness is a contemplation of sorts. Thus it is wise to choose well what we are contemplating upon

Contemplation means regarding mentally a single object, image, idea so that the knowledge about the object, image or idea may arise naturally in the mind by force of the concentration

Making Choices

Contemplation ~ Making Choices

"'If there is anything to religion, it ought to produce results,' it should work."
~ Richard Bach

“When you have to make a choice and don't make it, that is in itself a choice.”
~ William James

We find ourselves making choices in every day life, in practically every activity we do. Making thoughtful choices is something we need to learn to do.

When we make a firm choice in or about anything it is good to know that we on our own made that choice without outter influence. For in these moments of choice we could change our lives and perhaps not be fully prepared for the effects.

We know if we have made a wrong choice, we feel it as we enter it living itself out in our lives. If it is only a small thing it will pass through our lives very quickly without much noticible effect. If it is a large choice and we find ourselves as an example married to the wrong person, we then have to see that as we come to feel the wrongness of this choice not only do we effect ourselves but others in our lives. So here we use the tool of contemplation, and learn to make conscious choices, choices that are good for you and your life and will harm no other.

New Thought Spiritual Practices support us to transform our thinking and thereby transform our lives.

New Thought is neither Abrahamic, nor Vedic. New Thought is unique in that a person may come from any religious background and does not need to belong to any of the four Abrahamic religions or any of the Hindu (Vedic) religions. There are New Thought Taoists and New Thought Buddhists. What New Thought adherents have in common is a belief in Universal Spiritual Principles.

There are New Thought Buddhists, New Thought Taoists and New Thought Pagans who have would never call themselves Christian, nor claim any Abrahamic influence whatsoever. They accept that New Thought Abrahamics (Jews, Christians, Mohammedans, Mormons), and New Thought Vedics share the same Universal Principles of New Thought but would never characterize themselves as Abrahamic.

It is understood that New Thought is a unique and powerful spiritual path which can characterized as a religion having its own spiritual practices and beliefs. Some in New Thought prefer to claim they have no beliefs and choose to express their beliefs as "knowing."

It is understood there are many "Wayshowers." The strength of the teaching of a particular Wayshower is demonstrated through the consciousness and actions of the followers of that path. The adherents of each spiritual path are collectively responsible to the rest of humanity and all life to insure that the expression of their path is not abusive or violent nor violates the rights of other beings.

There are even New Thought Fundamentalists who believe that "nothing is real and everything is in your mind." These folks share many thought patterns and behaviors with other Fundamentalists around the globe. Such extreme beliefs are held by a fraction of New Thought adherents.

As one learns in the beliefs section, New Thought is inclusive and draws on the wisdom of all traditions that teach the truth of our Unity with God/Good and the omnipresence of God/Good. It is not

This basic premise of New Thought, that the Divine is Good and Omnipresent is based upon universal spiritual principles as demonstrated and taught by historical figures such as Buddha, Danika, Lao Tzu, and Jesus the Christ. It is understood there are many "Wayshowers." The strength of the teaching of a particular Wayshower is demonstrated through the consciousness and actions of the followers of that path. New Thought Day was declared by James Edgerton on August 23rd, 1915
During research while expanding the free New Thought Library, one of the ministers came across an interesting quote from early New Thought Alliance President James A. Edgerton: "'The truth, once announced, has the power not only to renew but to extend itself. New Thought is universal in its ideals and therefore should be universal in its appeal. Under the guidance of the spirit, it should grow in good works until it embraces many lands and eventually the whole world.' ~ New Thought Day, August 23rd , 1915."
